Stacking a 3750X with 3750Gs

We currently have a stack of 3750G switches that are running

12.2(46)SE            C3750-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M

Our 3750X is currently running 15.0(2)SE             C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M and I believe we were told you can't stack with a Universal IOS image. We have the universal on there because we have some 10GB fiber connections on it that Cisco told us wouldn't work otherwise.

I realize that the switch versions need to match, but the question is, which version should we work off to have use of the 10GB SFP card?

I am not sure why Cisco would tell you that you need IOS 15 to use the 10Gig port.  You can use any release from 12.2 (53) and later.  Have a look at table-2 in this link:

If your new 3750X can support 12.2(55)SE6, then use this version.

Do not, under any circumstances, run 12.2(58)SE, 15.0(1)SE and 15.0(2)SE.

One of my co-workers was told we needed to run the universal IOS to recognize the 10GB GBICs.

That's not correct.  Do you have C3KX-NM-10GT module?  If you don't then you can stick with 12.2(55)SE6.

We have the following in there:

C3KX-NM-10G

and

SFP-10G-LRM

C3KX-NM-10G and SFP-10G-LRM

LRM is supported in IOS version 12.2(53)SE.  So you don't need to run 15.0(X).

Out of curiosity, what is the issue with this versions of IOS?

This isn't an issue of a universal ios image versus a regular one is it?

I believe I have read leolaohoo make the recommendation before to avoid 12,2.58. I am also curious as to what this advice is based on.

Hey Jeff,

12.2(58)SE, 15.0(1)SE and 15.0(2)SE all have the same CPU hog bug.

The first time I've seen this was when I had a 2960-48PST.  That switch had NO CONFIGURATION and within hours, I could no longer console into the switch.  The 2960, during that time, was running 12.2(58)SE1 IOS.
