StackWise Virtual on C9500-40X

I need to select 6 new switches, and the model that fits my requirement in terms of ports is "C9500-40X".

I also need to implement Stack technology on them but according to the datasheet the StackWise Virtual is not supported yet on "C9500-40X" model.

What does it mean "Not Supported Yet" ? It will not be supported forever, or we are expecting for a new IOS that will support StackWise on "C9500-40X" later ?.

Thanks,

I was looking for update on on using the 40G modules on the C9500-40x for SVL?

Do we have update on release date?

Hi Team

When will it be available the stackwise virtual option using the 40G ports in the C-9500-40X models?

Regards

Dear Arun,

How many 9500 can be stacked together using stackwise ? I am planning to replace 6509 core with 9500 however due to fixed module , is there a limitation on how to scale ?

Hello farmancnemcse1

StackWise Virtual is similar in technology to VSS, and we can stack 2x 9500 (similar SKUs only) into a Virtual Switch.

Thanks,

Arun

Hi Arun,

C9500-16X is support for VSS ?

Hi,

Why only Network Advantage support SWV???

My customer bought two C9500-40X-E on Mar. He expect that he can use SWV in the future.

But now...

Hello Aru,

Sorry to bring this issue back

Is this issue already solved ?

If I use the "C9500-NM-8X" module, can I use this ports to build the SVL ?

Thanks,

Regards,

Bruno

Hello Bruno

Gibraltar-16.11.1 software release does support SVL on supported network modules (C9500-NM-8X and C9500-NM-2Q) forC9500-40X and C9500-16X models.

I am going to test this out tomorrow :)

Hi Ahsan Rana,

Did you test that out?

What is your output?

Hello Sir!

It worked out very well with Gibraltar 16.11.1, no issues. I used Enhanced PaGP for dual-active detection.

Thank you for your reply.

How many 9500 can be stacked together using stackwise ? I am planning to replace 6509 core with 9500 however due to fixed module , is there a limitation on how to scale ? since its core i don't want to have multiple instances of stacks , please share if there is anything in roadmap to stack more than two 9500 switches

Good afternoon,

Did you find out if the C9500-40X can have more then 2 switches in stack or any plans to include it in the OS?

Thanks in advance

Luke

As per the SW release 16.8 and 16.9 there is limitation to install VSL link on the up link modules.

Cisco StackWise Virtual—When configuring StackWiseVirtual links (SVLs) on the 9500-40X and C9500-16X models of the Cisco Catalyst 9500 Series Switches, note that you cannot create SVLs on any of the uplink modules.

Cisco StackWise Virtual—You cannot configure Cisco StackWise Virtual links on the uplink (network) modules (C9500-NM-8X and C9500-NM-2Q).
