Supervisor uplink ports

Hi all,

Is there anything special about the on-board 10G ports on supervisor cards? (Eg. Sup2T/Sup8e). Or are they just 'normal ports' which can be used to connect other switches, servers etc.

What is their use case in the real world? Are they commonly used for inter-chassis connections such as VSL connections in VSS?

Hi,

Correct, they are just 10Gig ports and can be used for anything you wan to use them for i.e servers, workstations, uplinks, etc..

If you are using VSS, usually engineers use one port form the sup and one port from a blade for VSL links.  Also, if say you are using them for access layer and your user ports are 10/100/1000, than you can use these 10Gigs for your uplinks, so you don't have to purchase a blade just for uplinks.
