I am trying to change the management IP address and gateway remotely. I connect and create a new SVI with a different IP address and change the default gateway. Loss of connectivity is expected. Once i lose connectivity I am not able to establish the connection back on the new SVI i just created. So my question is, are both SVI interfaces being active causing my connectivity issues?

What type of equipment is this? I'd suspect you changing the default gateway is causing the disconnect issue...

I am working on 3560, 3650, and 3750 switches.

Have you verified that the VLAN for the SVI is on that switch? Also, can you ping the new SVI from it's gateway?

Is the new management IP on a different subnet? if so is that vlan active on the switch? and does that vlan have connectivity to the new default gateway?

I assume this is for a switch acting as L2 and not L3 ?
What you want to do is work from the L3 switch that is going to be the default gateway IP for the management vlan.
If you do this then the default gateway is irrelevant because the L3 switch has an SVI in that vlan.
If you work from your desktop you are relying on the default gateway and because you have changed the SVI IP you won't be able to connect back to the switch.

I want to thank you all for the replies. Yes, the new IP range is totally different. I figured it out. Though I told the new SVI to not shutdown for some reason it does. I guess because I already have an active SVI up. I have found if I go back and verify the SVI is up before I change the default gateway all is good.
Thanks
