When I turn on the 2960x the led syst is amber. Accessing the console gives the brom prompt. I type reset but do not reset the switch.

The DRAM is toast. Contact Cisco TAC and organize RMA.

Console into the switch and reboot.
Post the entire boot-up process. We want to see what is going wrong.

I think maybe the flash: is formatted. Can you post dir flash:? if the flash is empty then is likely that flash: is formatted? if is not try to boot the image that is on flash:

Can you also post output of command "set"?

Sorry, now i see that memory test is failed, This is definitely hardware failure. I am afraid you have to replace it.
