Hi everyone.

I was upgarding IOs on the switch WS-C2960X-24PS-L to 15.0(2a)EX5 , The switch has 2 stack switches , I followed all the standard process.

Downloaded and copied IOS on the flash of each stack switch.

Changed the boot path on each of the switch to new ios.

Saved the configuration

reload

after the reload , only master switch came up with new IOS and the member switch is on provisioned state. Unfortunately i was doing this remotely and dont have access to remote switch.

Appreciate your assistance on this. Taking console access is probably the only option.

But i want to understand what could have been the reason.

Thanks,

Vishal Rai

Hi Vishal,

Many reason but few possible reason are

1) IOS not copied in member stack switch flash.

2) Boot sequence is not proper for member switch stack

3) IOS file corrupt in member stack switch.

Could you please give me sh ver and sh switch details output

Hi Pawan ,

Thanks for your reply. IOS was copied on both the switches , and boot sequence was also correct.

The issue was resolve when the stack member was rebooted physically. The stack joined and has new ios now.

I wonder if the " Reload " has only rebooted the master and not the member.

I guess i should have reload member 1st and then master, to avoid this issue.

Your comment will be appreciated.

Reload command in stack reload all switching including master and members. But in very rare situation member switch not join stack and this was happen here as well.
