Switch IP address.

Suppose to have a 2950 switch.

If, for management, I set an IP address in VLAN 10 and an IP default gateway to a router interface, I imagine that

the link from the switch to the router interface must be in VLAN 10 too (I do not want to use a trunk).

I imagine that I can choose any VLAN I want too.

If I want to manage the switch from a PC connected to a port of the switch, I imagine that the port

must be in the same VLAN too.

Is it true? Thanks.

Hi,

Obviously, that port should be in vlan 10, because the port which is connected from the switch to the router is an vlan 10.

If the PC which is connected on the switch is in different vlan, then how the PC traffic will reach its gateway.Else the port from switch to router should be trunk.

Thanks

Hi ,

If you are not using trunk to connect with , the machine should be in the same vlan to manage it

In case of trunk ,we can use default gateway to manage the switch from any vlan connected with.
