Dear Expert,
Kindly i want to Install fiber converters between two switch WS-C2960CX-8PC-L V03 and WS-C2960S-48FPS-L V04
The fiber converters are TrendNet Convertor 10/100 Mb/s SC fiber connector to RJ45, Multimode
and the WS-C2960CX-8PC-L V03 Ports is 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
and the WS-C2960S-48FPS-L V04 Ports is 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
WS-C2960CX-8PC-L V03
show interfaces gigabitEthernet 0/1 capabilities
GigabitEthernet0/1
Model: WS-C2960CX-8PC-L
Type: 10/100/1000BaseTX
Speed: 10,100,1000,auto
Duplex: half,full,auto
Trunk encap. type: 802.1Q
Trunk mode: on,off,desirable,nonegotiate
My question is does i need to change the converter from 10/100 Mb/s to 10/100/1000 Mb/s to make sure no issue negotiation between the 2 switches ?
or if i change the speed on both switches to speed 100 it work fine ?
Please advice
Thanks.

As stated it best to allow authentication to do its magic however I have had issues in the past with media converters that that tend to go off line and reconnect intermittently, hardcoding the interfaces i have found tends to resolve that issue.
Suggest test and monitor...

Hello,
typically if you leave it as is (auto is the default) the interfaces will negotiate the speed. Likely they will connect at 1000. Try and connect both interfaces without doing anything.

Kindly Note, the purpose of the installation of the fiber converters between the switches is to protect them from the lightning.
Please can you clarify if this step is Effective or not ?
kindly you said that media converters is not stable it go off line and reconnect intermittently
so do you advise not to use it ?
as i mentioned i want it for protection purpose.
kindly advise.
