Hi
I have a strange problem:
We have a VSS with 2 6509E and 5 4506E with SUP6-E. The 4506 are connected with two TenGig links (one to each 6509) each. The two ports build an ether channel.
Everything works fine but one of the TenGig links is not comming up. I checked an replaced all the cables and also the X2s.
If I have a look to the transceiver parameters everything looks fine:
Optical Optical
Temperature Voltage Current Tx Power Rx Power
Port (Celsius) (Volts) (mA) (dBm) (dBm)
---------- ----------- ------- -------- -------- --------
Te2/1/2 37.0 0.00 267.7 -- -2.1 -4.9
Optical Optical
Temperature Voltage Tx Power Rx Power
Port (Celsius) (Volts) (dBm) (dBm)
--------- ----------- ------- -------- --------
Te1/1 49.3 3.27 -1.4 -6.1
The config is identical on all interfaces:
interface TenGigabitEthernet2/1/2
description bav200s1
switchport
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 22 mode on
interface TenGigabitEthernet1/1
description core-emp-eaw (Eawag)
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 22 mode on
I also check if the TenGigs are active on the Sup6-E:
bav200s1#show hw-module module 1 port-group
Module Port-group Active Inactive
-------------------------------------------------------------
1 1 Te1/1 Gi1/3-4
1 2 Te1/2 Gi1/5-6
IOS Version on the 4506 is (cat4500e-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(54)SG
on the 6509 (s72033_rp-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(33)SXI4a
show interface status shows the X2 modules on both sides.
Any Ideas?
Thanks in advance
Thomas

It's not evident from your post what tranciever type of X2 you're using. SR,LR,ER,LX,CX..?
What interface module cards you're using ?
At first glance, if everything works fine with such port configuration on other port-channels, only this link suffers...
Perhaps, interface card could be corrupted. Try using another one.

X2s are LR (third party, but same effect with Cisco)
Line Card is WS-X6708-10GE

Ok. What physical ports (numbers) on one side (with WS-X6708-10GE) are used to form etherchannel ?

There is only one interface per switch (VSS member) and per ether channel used.
The problem is not the ether channel. The Interface is not coming up even if I remove it from the ether channel.

You have a layer 1 problem. It is either a bad port, bad transceiver or bad cable.
If you move the non working transciever and cable to another port does it link up? If so you have a bad port on your blade.

What kind of fiber is between the devices ? It isn't MMF is it ? If so you would need mode conditioning patches between the boxes.
Some info to eliminate this as a issue. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/modules/ps5455/product_bulletin_c25-530836.html

We only use SMF for the TenGig connections. And 9 of 10 connections work fine. They all have the same configuration.
The optical connection seems to be ok (as you can see in the 'optical RX power' value). This values are in the same range like to ones working fine.
