Traffic Police

Jonathan Forbes

I have a Cisco 6506-E Switch with a Sup-720 Sup Card.

I have a client that we are providing Internet access to. We get a 10Gig port form our provider but I want limit the client to a 100MB on a 1GB port.

Can someone send me the commands on how to do this.

What kind of port are you using? Copper or fiber?

The problem is the line cards in these chassis normally do not support traffic shaping like you can with a router. The only ways I have found to do this are to insert a router in the path to shape with, or to hard set the port to a speed that you can live with (for example if it's a copper port hard code it to 100/full on both sides)

I'd love to hear if another way is possible, but I've had the same problem myself, and the only way around it I have found is to use a router that supports it. (I haven't seen a switch that can do it, although certain line cards might work...)
