trunk port

To create the trunk port, may i know what is purpose to create vlan database? Is it compulsory to create it?

SwitchA# vlan database

SwitchA(vlan)# vlan 5 name vlan5

SwitchA(vlan)# exit

SwitchA# configure terminal

SwitchA(config)# interface fastethernet 0/5

SwitchA(config-if)# switchport mode access

SwitchA(config-if)# swichport access vlan 5

SwitchA(config-if)# end

vlan dadabase u need it in older versions of IOS

newer u can only do like

vlan 10

in this case u created a vlan 10

it is not compulsory for the trunk

the trunk only forward vlans through it while the access port forward only traffic taged with its vlan number
