Trunking issue

skiran
Level 1
Level 1

Setup is something like this:

Cat 4000 ==> 2950

Management vlan: 255

Config on 4000:

set trunk 5/2 on dot1q 1-1005

Config on 2950:

int gig 0/1

switchport mode trunk

!

int vlan 255

ip address 10.1.1.1

Problem:

PCs connected to 2950 switches are able to access the network resources. But management IP 10.1.1.1 is not reachable from Cat 4000 switch.

Need suggestions or supportive documents for this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

is VLAN 255 active on the 2950 switch ? Can you post the configuration of both switches ?

Regards,

GP

int vlan 255

Vlan255 is down, line protocol is down..

I am not able to get this management vlan up.. any suggestions for this?

Hello,

the default management VLAN is 1, try to shut it down manually.

Also, which IOS version are you running on your 2950 ? Keep in mind that for switches running a version of IOS software that is earlier than Cisco IOS 12.0(5)XP, you cannot change the management VLAN.

GP

Hello,

Things are working now. VLAN 255 is up.

I added it manually into vlan database.

Thanks for all your help.

Regards,

Shashi.
