                   hi,

I have this 4507 chassis, SUP 6L-E. it has two twin giog ports an di had trie dto configure these as 1 gig interfaces to be used as i gig uplinks. after inserting teh commands I found in a Cisco paper, I see that only ports 5 & 6 works but not 3 & 4 (3 & 4 are the first twin gig).

is this suppose to behave like this?

why 5 & 6 and not 3 & 4?

I did active all of them tho?

interface GigabitEthernet3/3

description uplink to Core 6500 Gi1/1/11 on primary

switchport mode trunk

shutdown

channel-group 1 mode on

!

interface GigabitEthernet3/4

description uplink to Core 6500 Gi2/1/11 on Secondary/stby Sw

switchport mode trunk

shutdown

channel-group 1 mode on

!

interface GigabitEthernet3/5

description uplink to Core 6500 Gi1/1/11 on primary

switchport mode trunk

interface GigabitEthernet3/6

interface GigabitEthernet3/3

switchport mode trunk

channel-group 1 mode on

interface GigabitEthernet3/4

description uplink to Core 6500 Gi2/1/11 on Secondary/stby Sw

switchport mode trunk

interface GigabitEthernet3/5

interface GigabitEthernet3/6

Hello Masood,

Correct me if I am wrong, but you are using two 4507 chassis with SUP 6L-E in standalone mode.

To change from the default 10G mode to 1G mode, you have configured the commands :

hw-module module 3 port-group 1 select gigabitethernet

hw-module module 3 port-group 2 select gigabitethernet

If this is the case  It should work even with 4x 1G active (in standalone mode only).

In the posted configuration we are seeing the mentionned interfaces (Gi3/3 and Gi3/4) as shutdown. Is it normal ?

Best regards.

Karim

Hi,

I only have one 4507 chassis an di tried to convert the 10 gig uplinks to 1 gig 3 -6

here is what I have on teh switch:

4507r-flr-2600k#sh hw-module slot 3 port-g
4507r-flr-2600k#sh hw-module slot 3 port-group 1
Module Port-group Active                         Inactive
-------------------------------------------------------------
   3        1     Te3/1                          Gi3/3-4

4507r-flr-2600k#sh hw-module slot 3 port-group 2
Module Port-group Active                         Inactive
-------------------------------------------------------------
   3        2     Gi3/5-6                        Te3/2

I did shut those port gi 3/3 and gi 3/4 because they were not becomming active.

is teh output of sh hw-module slot 3 port-group 2 good enough and must work?

Thanks,

Masood

Hello Masood,

This is the reason why => the port group 1 (first slot) is not configured in Giga mode but is still in TenGig default mode.

=====================================

4507r-flr-2600k#sh hw-module slot 3 port-group 1

Module Port-group Active                         Inactive

-------------------------------------------------------------

   3        1     Te3/1                          Gi3/3-4

=====================================

If you associate the port group 1 in 1G mode with the following command =>

hw-module module 3 port-group 1 select gigabitethernet

Then it should work.(I would advice to be careful for any manipulation in production environment).

Best regards.
