Hello,
I am not sure whether I am posting this question in the right section or not. But I have got two switches with GigE ports and I need to connect them together. I do not have the GigE Optics yet. I am trying to find the kind of GigE Optics I should be installing in these GigE Switch ports. I have googled it but getting no confirm answer. Before i spend my company's money I want to be sure the kind of Optics I should be using.
Can you please get some guidance. Following are the two switch types
Switch -1 ( cisco WS-C2960G-48TC-L ) Needs to be connected to Switch -2 ( cisco WS-C2950G-48-)...What kind of GigE Optics I should be placing an order for.
Regards,
Hassan

The 2960G-48 has four dual-personality ports. You can use copper if you like.

So is it safe to say...that for the following Switches I can order these GigE Optics
Switch - 1 ( cisco WS-C2960G-48TC-L) Needs to be connected to Switch -2 ( cisco WS-C2950G-48-)
1-WS-G5486=1000BASE-LX/LH long haul GBIC (singlemode or multimode) <=== Are these GigE Optics fine for connecting 2960 & 2950

Firstly, what is your fibre optic link? Single Mode (long haul) or Multi-Mode (short haul)?
You can't physically fit a G5486 into a 2960G. For a 2960, you'll need GLC-LH module.
