Upgrade 2960S stack

Is it possible to upgrade the image on an entire 2960S stack at once? Or does the .bin file have to copied to each switch in the stack individually? Looking to upgrade from 12.2.(53) SE2 to 12.2(55) SE2.

Yes, use the .tar file to upgrade the entire stack from the master

have a look at this link for more info

Upgrading the Cisco IOS Software Release on a Stack

FlexStack  has the capability to upgrade all members with a single command. A  single command eases the operational burden on the network  administrator. The command to initiate an upgrade takes place on the  master. The master makes sure that each member is properly upgraded.

The Cisco IOS Software CLI command to upgrade a FlexStack stack

"archive download-sw [options] ."

The default behavior is to upgrade all members.

Hello,

Does it work with a .bin file?

FlexStack can be upgraded with a single command.

But if you not using that, then you have to copy the image individually and proceed with the upgrade one by one.

Command to do that is : archive download-sw [options]

Hi Sweta,

Hope you are doing well.

Thanks for the nice explanation.I got one question. Does the Master need reboot after the new image is downloaded with archive download-sw tftp:///.tar command?

Or it becomes operational by some magic :) on the place of the old one?

Many thanks.

Yes you can.

You can use the traditional "archive download-sw tftp:///.tar" and the command will install the IOS to all the known members of the stack.

You can also use the USB port and substitute the "tftp://" with "usbflash0:".

Note that IOS version 15.1 for 2960S is now ready for download.
