UPGRADE IOS SW3850

RRFS578780
Level 1
Level 1

I have been updating the stacked SW 3850 IOS version, but when running the command, the following message appears:

Switch 1 must be running installed software to perform this operation
Switch 2 must be running installed software to perform this operation

I saw on some sites that could do individual upgrade as a solution, but I would like to know why this error, and how to upgrade in stacking mode?

Read the 16.6.6 release notes , if you dont follow it point to point you could end up bricking the switch , requires conversion from bundle to install mode , their is some major points when jumping from such a train to package release, you'll lose ssh keys and other points to note especially if remote

Upgrading from Cisco IOS XE 3.xE to Cisco IOS XE Denali 16.x.x, or Cisco IOS XE Everest 16.6.x in Bundle Mode

Hello

Have a look at this recent post even though I mis-interpreted the OP it explains

install and bundle modes on 3850 and 9k switches

Thanks for answering.

But I think my case is a little different, because I have the stacking ready, but I'm trying to update and I'm getting an error that I shouldn't.

I already passed the new image to SW 3850 and when I run the command software install file flash: IOS NEW switch 1-2 (software install file flash: IOS NEW switch 1-2 new force - BUG of some versions), the error appears for me.

Switch 1 must be running software to perform this operation
Switch 2 must be running software to perform this operation

Hello

sh version

sh switch

Hello

as I stated before my understanding I think auto-upgrade only works in install mode - you are currently running in bundle mode

suggest you could follow the upgrade procedure from that link I posted to go from bundle to install mode specifying switch all instead of a specific switch number

The stack is running Bundle Mode in 3.X.X. So what version are you planning to go to?
