Hi
read this carefully its the exact release notes for 16.9 and contains a section on how to upgrade it correctly

Upgrading the Switch Software
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst9400/software/release/16-9/release_notes/ol-16-9-9400.html#id_67613

Adding to other post

But steps same and detailed here :(old Version still works for new one too)

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/trivial-file-transfer-protocol-tftp/212470-catalyst-9400-upgrading-dual-supervisor.html

4 Steps :

back up config, read the release notes, upgrade in maintenance window, test it.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi,

is not possible to upgrade both supervisors at the same time?

Reading the steps, I have found the following:

Upgrade Steps for Secondary Supervisor
Remove supervisor from slot 5 which was upgraded in previous steps and insert the standby supervisor in slot 6 in the chassis. The removal of first supervisor is important because to upgrade two supervisors whilst both of them inserted in the chassis is not supported as mentioned earlier. You can repeat the same upgrade steps documented here to upgrade the newly inserted supervisor.

seriously?

Does anybody knows if we can upgrde both supervisor without removing and inserting?

Regards

Not possible can only do 1 upgrade at a time , that's a hardware limitation

ok, thnaks for your reply.

Anyway, the procedure is not very clear. firts we upgrade the active supervisor with boht inserted in the chassis, when active supervisor reboots the standby becomes active, then the original active supervisor boots with the new software image, but redundancy is no possible due to software version missmatch. remove this supervisor and upgrade de active one, then this supervisor boots whith the new image, insert once again the other supervisor. is that correct?

Regards
