Is it ok to go ahead and upgrade the switch firmware from one firmware to another. For example from Denali to Girbaltor?
Is there anything extra that I need to do in regards to ROMMON or will this be done automatically?

Microcode done automatically part of the Upgrade, make sure read the release notes what is the current and what is target version.

The ROMMON gets upgraded automatically.
Make sure to upgrade using Install Mode.
