Hello,

I want to update a switch and it's flash has lots config files, I guess because of crashes, but I'm not sure.  See photo.

Also the firmware seems to be an EX3 file what is this?

Belflash.PNGBelflash2.PNG

Space free is:

122185728 bytes total (98291200 bytes free)

Any advise would be great.

Thanks

Those are not crash log files. Those are configuration files generated every time someone saves the config.
You must read the Release Notes to the version you want to go to because it will provide important details about bugs and different methods of upgrading the IOS of the switch.
IMPORTANT: The switch will need to have a HARD reboot (pull the power cable) because it may have a micro-code bug.

Hi those files look like archive config files backups not crashes , can you read them ? try command more flash:(the name of the file here) or just delete them if you don't want them, delete flash:name

that image your on is from 2013 , download the latest image from here for an upgrade, use the star version

https://software.cisco.com/download/home/284795663/type/280805680/release/15.2.4E7

Firmware downloaded and not uploading to switch I guess I just use the boot image command?

I see this in the config:

archive
log config
logging enable
logging size 200
notify syslog contenttype plaintext
hidekeys
path flash:/$t-$h-config
write-memory
time-period 1440

And yes I can open the configs.

I'm confused why I'm downloading a .bin file while the one on the switch is .EX3?

your backing config up every day with that syntax , its good to have but you could delete some of the old ones clear some space
there are .bin files and .tar files 2 methods of upgrade you can use either , with ..bin you can just load the file to flash , set the boot statements and reload the switch

I would take a quick read of this

Hi there,

Looks like you have the config archive enabled on the switch, but with the path set to the local flash instead of to a remote server. What is the output of sh archive

The EX in the filename normally denotes a special release. If you are looking to upgrade you should go for 15.2.4E7

cheers,

Seb.
