Upgrading IOS in a 2960 mixed stack

I have an operational mixed stack of three 2960s and i want to upgrade IOS.  I tried using the archive download-SW command but got this error.

Error: The image in the archive which would be used to upgrade
Error: system number 2 does not support that particular system.

here is what i see when i do a show version:

Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
* 1 52 WS-C2960X-48FPD-L      15.0(2a)EX5      C2960X-UNIVERSALK9-M
  2 52 WS-C2960S-48TS-L        15.0(2)EX5        C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M
  3 52 WS-C2960X-48FPS-L      15.0(2a)EX5      C2960X-UNIVERSALK9-M

i can see that they are not quite at the same IOS now (although very close).....what is the recommended procedure to get the IOS of this stack upgraded so they are all the same version  (i am planning to take them to 15.2(4)E6  )

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

So you need to prepare two different types of IOS. One for the 2960X and one for the 2960S.
For the 2960S, use the command "archive download-sw /dest 2 tftp://<TFTP IP address>/filename.tar".
For the 2960X, use the command "achive download-sw /dest 1 /dest 3 tftp://<TFTP IP address>/filename.tar".
Hope this helps.

looks like the 2960S has no IOS at the level i want for the 2960X (i wanted to get them up to 12.2.4E6 (MD)).....so should i pick IOS versions that are the same?

I'm seeing that the 2960S has a version 15.2.2E8 (MD)  and that is about as high as that switch goes that will match the 2960X IOS's

Thanks in advance.
