Uplinks SUP7L-E

Hi,

I have a new C4507RE+ and two Supervisor SUP7L-E (Primary Supervisor in the Slot 3, and the Standby Supervidor in the Slot4).

And I have these question:

I can connect 04  GLC-SX-MMD in the uplink ports of  Supervisor Engine 7L-E (Primary)?. I would like connect 04 3750 switchs in mode 802.1Q.

Hi,

Yes, you can use 2 1Gig ports from each sup and uplink them to you 3750 switches.

So,

The uplink of the 3750-01 is connected to Port 01 of Primary Supervisor.

The uplink of the 3750-02 is connected to Port 02 of Primary Supervisor.

The uplink of the 3750-03 is connected to Port 01 of Standby Supervisor.

The uplink of the 3750-04 is connected to Port 02 of Standby Supervisor.

And then enter the command #hw-module uplink select gigabitethernet ??

That is correct.  You need to apply "hw-module uplink select gigabitethernet" to be able to use the Gig ports.

Also, are you planning to uplink the 3750s using only one uplink?.  You don't need redundancy?  If you loose one of the Gig port, you loose a whole switch.  You know that right?

you're right, this design does not have high availability.

To have high availability, you need to have 2 4507RE chassis.  Put a 1Gig fiber blade in each chassis and dully uplink your 3750s to both 4500.  If your 3750s are E or X series, you can use 10Gig ports for uplinks, but you would need to have a 10Gig blade in each chassis.

I have the last question, if the primary supervisor fails (slot03), Can I connect the uplinks from the port 01 and port 02 of the slot03 to port03 and port04 of the slot04?, the supervisor in the slot04 will be the new primary supervisor .
