Virtual Stack on WS-C3850-24T-S

Hi,

I'm having two WS-C3850-24T-S - Cisco Catalyst 3850 24 Port Data IP Base Switch running IOS S3850UK9-166 - UNIVERSAL, my query is it IOS S3850UK9-166 - UNIVERSAL supports virtual stack, if yes what are the configuration need to do to form virtual stack between two 3850 Switches

Also can i achieve virtual stack using  50CM Type 1 Stacking Cable between these switches, if not can i configure virtual stack and dual detection using 1GE link

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Vishal

Hi,

You need Denali for stack wise virtual. See link for config example:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3850/software/release/16-6/configuration_guide/b_166_stck_mgr_ha_3850/b_166_stck_mgr_ha_3850_chapter_010.pdf

For this solution, you can't use the stacking cable.

Or you can simply stack the switches together using the stacking cable that comes with the switch.

Hi Vishal,

I would not say, it is just plugged and play or at least not yet :-)

To configure stacking correctly, you would need the same exact IOS version on both switches. You also need the same exact license ("sh ver" will show you what you have) on both switches. If these 2 requirements are met, you still need to go through the second link I provided to get them configured correctly.

Here is an additional link for your reference.

Hi Reza,

Thanks for your help

So as per your solution i can stack my Switch WS-C3850-24T-S having IOS  S3850UK9-166 -UNIVERSAL just by connecting 50CM Type 1 Stacking Cable and powering on both Switches  with no configuration required.

Just like plug and play thing
