VLAN interface up/down state

I thought these interfaces were always in a up/up state or a shutdown. I have one that is in up/down and not sure what's causing that. I'm running 12.2 IOS on a 4507 if that makes any difference. Does anyone know what I can look at to see why it's like this?

If there is no connected physical port whose VLAN is associated with a VLAN interface, that VLAN interface will be in an up/down state.

Hi,

The Interfaces on a device could be in the following states:

1. Up/Up = Everything is fine @ L-1

2. Admin Down = Int. has been config. to be shut

3. Up/Down= Interface though has been config to be up, however something at L1 or L2 is preventing it to come up e.g. it could be a Encap mismatch, or as Remote end is down etc. etc.

Kind Regards,

Wilson Samuel
