@prestigio391 and all,

ALL Sup720-10G have a PFC3 and MSFC3 by default. It is either a 3C or 3CXL (XL meaning larger tables for FIB, ACL, NetFlow, etc).

The difference between these two is

  • VS-SUP720-10G is the baseboard ID that shows up in commands like "show module" and "show inventory". This was not an orderable part number. Separate part numbers for the PFC3 / PFC3CXL and MSFC3 will show up in this output.
  • VS-SUP720-10G-3C was the orderable part number for the supervisor model that included the 3C version of the PFC3.
  • VS-SUP720-10G-3CXL was the orderable part number for the supervisor model that included the 3C version of the PFC3CXL.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Hello thank you for your link but there is no answer  I have supervisor only with PN  VS-S720-10G vithout VS-S720-10G-3C

                    - 3C may denote the presence of  a Policy Feature Card

   M.

-- ' 'Good body every evening' ' this sentence was once spotted on a logo at the entrance of a Weight Watchers Club !

VS-S720-10G  - this is base Module

depends on requirement, Dauter board need to be order.

 VS-S720-10G-3C  (in your case 3C is sub module).

example :  720 with 2 ports 10GbE and MSFC3 PFC3C

@prestigio391 :

VS-S720-10G-3C : Cat 6500 Supervisor 720 with 2 x 10GbE and 3x1GE MSFC3 PFC3C

VS-S720-10G: Cat 6500 Supervisor 720 with 2 x 10GbE

MSFC3

The MSFC3 is an integral part of the Supervisor Engine 720, providing high performance, multilayer switching and routing intelligence. Equipped with a high performance processor, the MSFC runs layer 2 protocols on one CPU and layer 3 protocols on the second CPU. These include routing protocol support, layer 2 protocols (Spanning Tree Protocol and VLAN Trunking Protocol for example), and security services.
The MSFC builds the Cisco Express Forwarding information Base (FIB) table in software and then downloads this table to the hardware Application-specific-integrated circuits (ASICs) on the PFC3 and Distributed forwarding engine (if present) that make the forwarding decisions for IP unicast and multicast traffic.

PFC3

The Supervisor Engine 720 features the PFC3, which is equipped with a high-performance ASIC complex supporting a range of hardware-based features. The PFC3 supports routing and bridging, QoS, and multicast packet replication, and processes security policies such as access control lists (ACLs).
The Supervisor engine 720 has a field-upgradeable Policy Feature Card3. The PFC3 is equipped with a high performance ASIC complex supporting a range of hardware based features. The PFC3 supports IPv4, IPv6 routing and bridging functionality, quality of service (QoS) and multicast forwarded and ACL-based policies.

Hello @inderdeeps ,

All Sup720 had an MSFC3 and aa PFC3 what they differ is in the model.

PFC3A was the initial one

PFC3B introduced support for MPLS

PFC3BXL more space in the TCAM tables

PFC3C

PFC3CXL

The initial VS in the part number signal that the supervisor is capable of building a VSS pair with another chassis.

Hope to help

As I recall, with the VS-SUP720-10Gs, it's as Scott describes, i.e. they came as either a -3C or -3CXL, if the suffix wasn't mentioned, generally it's actually a -3C.  (The -3C variants cost [considerably] less and the XL variant not needed in typical Enterprise deployments.  [Also BTW, when using a DFCs, on line cards, I also recall to take full advantage of XLs, they, and Supervisor, all had to have XL variants.  XL DFCs also cost more.])
