In VSS, you only have access to primary switch. Load the new IOS in to
sup-bootdisk and slave sup-bootdisk.
sup-bootdisk is for the primary switch and slave sup-bootdisk is for stand-by switch
Delete the old boot variable command and set the new one.
save the config
reboot both switches.

You can do it remotely. The easiest way is to have an outage window for about one hour. Load the new image into the primary and stand-by sups, set the boot variable and reboot both chassis at the same time.

...it may be better to use Enhanced Fast Software Upgrade (eFSU) in VSS case?

how do we connect to remote VSS-2 and load the IOS
You don't need to. when you issue the reload command on the primary switch, it will reboot both primary and stand-by.
