WCCP requires sdm template routing on a 3750.

So we are trying to setup up WCCP on our 3750 stack and it isnt working. We get this message in the event logs on the switch

PLATFORM_WCCP-4-SDM_MISMATCH: WCCP requires sdm template routing

The solution seems to be to run the global config command sdm prefer routing and reboot the switch (ugh!)

Are there any warnings, caveats, gotchas that go with this? Performance issues? Could this affect our ospf routing?  dhcp options wont change?

Thanks

It depends on what resources your current SDM template is using. If you already have OSPF routing and DHCP functioning on the switch, you're not likely to lose anything by switching to the routing template, but it does lower the layer 2 capabilities of the switch somewhat in order to add additional functionalities at layer 3. What SDM template are you running now?

running desktop template.. ipadvanced image.

Not sure what you mean by lowering layer 2 capabilities tho..

The desktop template balances off L2 and L3 functionality, giving you a good measure of each. If you need more advanced routing functionality, switching to the router template allows this, but reduces things like the maximum number of MAC addresses that the switch can handle. Similarly, moving to a switching template increases the layer 2 switching capacity by stripping out much of the routing functionality. As long as you're not really pushing the switch to its limits, moving to the routing template shouldn't be a problem.

if you're unsure, switch the template, reload and look for errors or abnormal functionality for the next day or so. Make sure you make no changes to the configuration for now. If everything is fine, you can go ahead and add the WCCP configuration. If not, you can switch back to the desktop template and roll back to what you had before.

Well it has been 4.5 days now.. no complaints and WCCP seems to be working as it should.

I say issue resolved.

Thanks!!
