I want to know the reason why to use stacking between two switches, and not let as normal with dual links trunk.
Why to use them?

what about a guide with step by step for configuring it?

thank you!

Dear pdriver!
Thank you for the link, and information is there is good.
BUt my question is very concentrated, vere clear....

Why to implement Stack in stead of Trunk between switches.

what are the main reason to implement stack

why not connecting as normal in trunk?

Hello,

The main idea about stacking is that the stack has one control plane. So we have one IP to manage the whole stack, one STP instance per vlan, etc.

If we didn't have a stack then we'd have 9 IPs to manage, 9 STP instances per vlan (9 is max switches that can be stacked!). You can also do things like LACP to connect the stack to aggregate switches or use the stack as aggregate for switches.

Also, the bandwidth between switches is far better than using the ports to connect the switches. The bandwidth between switches is 64 Gb today (depending on which switches are used).

Hope this helps.

Dave
