what precautions is required when connecting a new switch to network

Hi, I'm about to connect a brand new 3750 switch to our root switch now. I need to connect the trunk link and test the physical connectivity. if this new switch is not configure, will it causes problem? I've put "spanning-tree uplink fast" and "vtp mode transparent" on this switch. Anything else is needed?
