Will ws-sup32-ge-3b supports IOS w/o MSFC ?

Hi Friends ,

I have a sup 32 (WS-SUP32-GE-3B) i dont find any msfc card ? is there any command to check if msfc is present or offline/online ? Also will i be able to upgrade IOS for this sup with out MSFC ?

Hi Kamal,

Sup32 (WS-SUP32-GE-3B) has MSFC2A.

WS-SUP32-GE-3B = Supervisor Engine 32, PFC3B, MSFC2A.

You can check this detail by issuing show module

Under the Sub-Module section, find the feature card and the router card. In this example, the feature card and router card are:

WS-F6K-PFC3B = module is equipped with a PFC3B.

WS-F6K-MSFC2A = module is equipped with an MSFC2A.

2. will i be able to upgrade IOS for this sup with out MSFC?

Answer: CatOS is supported for layer 2 (switching) operations only. To be able to perform routing functions (e.g. Layer 3) operations, the switch must be run in hybrid mode. In this case, CatOS runs on the Switch Processor (SP) portion of the Supervisor, and IOS runs on the Route Processor (RP) also known as the MSFC

Without MSFC, you can run only CAT OS on the supervisor.

Hi,

Thanks for your input , Actually the msfc was not shown when i gave show module command ... It had some corrupt IOS .. now its fixed and its working fine....

What changes you have done on the switch, to enable MSFC2A card. I have also same issue , in show module output MSFC card is not showing

I have the same issue. When I do show module it does not show the MSFC 2A daughter card.

Is there are procedure to recover the MSFC 2A card. Below is the show module output
