Hello,
I am wondering if somebody could provide me with some advice.
We currently have a LAN in one building and would like to extend the LAN to another building wirelessly, the buidlings do have a clear path of line of sight.
The buidling is no more than 300m away from the current LAN segment but obviously is out of the range for wifi.
looking for some cost effective yet reliable ideas ? if anybody can provide links to relevant products too that would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

We use Proxim bridges. They're easy to set up:

Hello John
They look great. What distance have you used these to cover ?
Thanks
Tom

I think the farthest distance we have is about 5 miles, but they have stronger ones that can go 25 miles or more.

Hi Tomas,
You can connect an outdoor wireless access point in both buildings to trunk ports in the switches and direct the access points (if it is a directional antenna) to each other and be sure there is a Line-of Sight (LoS) between both of them.
Be sure that both access points works in the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) mode or sometimes it is called Bridge mode, and add the MAC address of the second access point to the first one and vice versa if the topology is Point-to-Point.
Configure both access points to the same channel, frequency (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
Inside the buildings, use indoor access points in the Access Point Mode with SSID, Encryption, Authentication and Channel so clients can connect and connect the indoor access points to an access switch port and configure it to a certain VLAN.
Here is an example for the design:
