CODIAN 4220 CAPACITY ISSUE

ALCON,

We had a VTC on our 4220 with 28 VTC participants.  Joined with no issue.

We had another VTC with 11 participants that overlapped start times. 

Problem was when the 11 participant call started and folks began dialing in the 28 site call had folks start dropping or some folks

lost video when folks that dropped dialed back in.

We are on a fiber backbone and the bridge BW limit is at 512K in and out. ???

Bridge is also registered to our cluster and that bandwidth is set to 512K ??? 

Any ideas of what to look for is appreciated. 

During the calls their was no network degragation that we noticed.

If I recall it right the 4220 MCU should be able to handle 40 calls at the same time.

Could you tell us a bit more about your setup, any call control used, which call protocol,

how was the connection established, ...

Did you check on the logfiles of the call control and the MCU?

As you write your own comments with ??? how do I have to interpret that? ;-)

In a standard case of MCU is full I would expect all existing calls stay up and new ones

can not get connected.

This sounds more like a network issue. So it would be interesting to have seen the exact

bandwidth utalization for each call (signaled and used) and also whats going on on your

firewall and the network uplink.

Yes the 4220 is supposed to handle up to 40 video EP's.

Call control is used (H.323) and in the case of this situation all EP's were dialing via IP.

Sorry about the ??? ... The bridge is set in/out at 512 and the VCS Bandwidth is set 512

Most sites came in at 384 but nothing out of the ordinary.   We have had mulltiple conferences with  up to 38 sites total in the bridge and no compaints.

Is there a lesson learned firewall and/or router document/white paper that is out there with other than the typical port, protocol, direction settings?
