Microsoft Lync Integration to Cisco VCS

We have a client that currently use Microsoft OCS R2 for desktop video clients connected to a Codian 4210MCU via a VCS. They also have approx. 40 other MXP endpoints.

They have now implemented Microsoft Lync and want to retain this functionality as previous with OCS R2.

I see the deployment guide recommends installing another VCS to act as a Lync gateway.

Does the integration work without this gateway in place,if we just create a SIP trunk directly between the existing VCS (X6.1) and the Lync server?

The documentation explains that the second Lync gateway VCS is required because there are system settings required that may affect the operation of the video network VCS, such as call routing & interworking modes.

Does anyone have experience with implementing this type of solution and could shed a bit more light on this than just the deployment guide?

Thanks, and look forward to your advice..

Hi Ian,

it is not strictly required to have a dedicated VCS acting as a Lync/OCS gateway, but having so allows for more flexibility.

However, as long as you can live with the required configuration parameters of a Lync/OCS gateway VCS (Such as Interworking=On and Call Routed Mode=Always), it should normally not be a problem to use your existing VCS as a Lync/OCS Gateway VCS.

Hope this helps,

Andreas
