As long as the camera will output 1080p video, as the codec will only accept that progressive video. If it outputs 1080i, then you'll need to install a scaler between the camera and codec to convert it to 1080p. We use Sony cameras that output 1080i and have a scaler at the codec, works perfectly fine for video only, since like you no control is required by us either.
