I was given a SX20 out of the box. Everything looks to be configured correctly expept that whenever I try to make an IP call it tells me this:
I thought I could make a straight IP call without having to configure H323. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to change the following in the SX20 configuration to make point-to-point IP calls without a call control server such as CUCM or VCS.
Configuration H323 Profile 1 CallSetup Mode: Direct

Do I need any other type of device besides this SX20?

You can use the SX20 as a standalone endpoint without any other hardware. If you search the forums for "sx20 standalone", you'll see several discussions with instructions and helpful tips on how to set it up more.
