VCS and Expressway Support Versions with CM 9.1.2

Ryan McAlister

I want to update my VCS and Expressway software and wanted a little advice.

I’m running:

Call Manager =: 9.1.2.10000-28

Presence Server = 9.1.1.10000-8

VCS-E = 8.2.1

VCS-C = 8.2.1

Expressway-C = 8.1.1

Expressway-E = 8.1.1

SX10 and 80 Cameras = 9.1.2 (updated today 6/24/2017)

TMS = 15.5 (was this pulled off of Cisco’s site? All I see now is 15.4.4?)

What is the latest supported version of the VCS and Expressway software I would be able to use?

Thank you.

If you're using MRA, than:

CUCM 9.1.2(SU1) is required if you want to run VCS X8.1 thru X8.7.

CUCM 9.1.2(SU4) is required if you want to run VCS X8.8.

CUCM 10 or later is required if you want to run VCS X8.9.

Suggest you check the MRA Configuration Guides for more information on deploying MRA for these versions.

If you're not using MRA, and only using for B2B calling etc, than you can upgrade to the most recent version.

In either case, you should check the release notes and deployment guides of all your products, if there are any version prerequisites or inseparability issues between any of the products, it should be documented.

what version are you looking at upgrading to?  The release notes of that version should contain details on version interoperability

VCS is a virtual machine and I'm only using it for SX10/80 cameras and Jabber. MRA states that it needs CUCM 10 or later so I'd be worried to goto 8.9.2. MRA 8.8 says it needs CUCM 9.1.2SU4 so that is out as well. MRA 8.7 says it will work with CUCM 9.1.2SU1 so I'm wondering if that will work?

I don't think you're version of CUCM is even SU1 so MRA is out unless you upgrade (SU upgrade shouldn't be too hard). MRA is for CUCM registered endpoints anyway so it doesn't seem to matter in this case.  I don't see any reason not to upgrade to the latest version of VCS.

What are you using VCS and Expressway for exactly?  And is your VCS hardware based or a VM?

If you are just registering endpoints to it and/or external SIP/H323 calls, there shouldn't be any issue upgrading to the latest version, but the older VCS hardware appliances only support up to a certain version (8.6 I think).

MRA only supports a later release of 9.1.2 (SU1 or SU2 from memory), but you'd already have that issue at your current versions of Expressway/VCS.

I've been running CUCM 9.1.2 in conjunction with Expressway 8.9.2 for a month or so with no issues.

Also, TMS 15.5 wasn't pulled from cisco.com - 15.4.4 was just release more recently so it shows up under "latest".
