2 port VWIC-2MFT-T1 clocking issue and slips

Hi,

We have had an imense amount of problems with faxing from our network. We were able to determine it was clocking issue and we attempted to resovle it by synching the clocks.

We have 3  T1 pri’s from two different providers. Two t1’s are from TW ( time warner) and the other one is from qwest. We use the qwest line only for long distance. Now when we send faxes locally it works, but when we send them via long distance using the qwest line, the faxes fail. We now realize that we have slip errors on the qwest line and this is most likely the problem.

The issue is a clocking problem. Below is the sh network output:

ELPVG-3845# sh network

  Network Clock Configuration

  ---------------------------

Priority      Clock Source    Clock State     Clock Type

     1          T1 0/1/0        GOOD            T1

     2          T1 0/1/1        GOOD            T1

     3          T1 2/0          GOOD            T1

    11          Backplane       GOOD            PLL

  Current Primary Clock Source

  ---------------------------

Priority      Clock Source    Clock State     Clock Type

     1          T1 0/1/0        GOOD            T1

clock timezone MST -7 0

clock summer-time MDT recurring

network-clock-participate slot 2

network-clock-participate wic 0

network-clock-participate wic 1

network-clock-select 1 T1 0/1/0 -tw

network-clock-select 2 T1 0/1/1 qwest

network-clock-select 3 T1 2/0  tw

!

Physically, we have a 2 port vwic, this card has one time warner line and a qwest line. We have additional vwic on slot2 and this has the other TW line connected to it. At this time, we are taking the clock from the TW line and have the other tw and qwest line synced to it. However, the qwest line is showing slip errors.

So what we need to do is be able to either sync the 3 T1’s to one clock source or have the qwest line clock from qwest and timewarner clock from time warner.

Like I stated above, right now we are taking the clock from TW and synching all 3 lines, but the qwest line is showing slip errors.

Do you think it would resolve the issue if we clocked from qwest instead?  Or how can we go about having qwest use the qwest clock source and tw use the tw clock? The connecitons are as follows

Wic 0 is a 2port vwic 2 and it has the tw line and qwest

Wic 1 has a single vwic with the other tw line.

Thanks in advance1

For anyone else that may have the same issue you can look here for a detailed explanation.

Essentially though, the fix is to purchase a NM-HDV module. I had an open case with TAC and their solution was pretty much the same.
