Cisco TMS and Polycom HDX8006

I am setting up a new TMS install, and I have been able to find and add all of teh Cisco/Tandberg systems to teh TMS datatbase. When I find and attempt to add my Polycom HDX8006, I get a message that teh password is not correct.

I am not sure what to use for password, and for login. The Polycom endpoint appears to have 2 users, admin and user, and I have set teh password for both to be the same. But no matter what I enter in TMS, Add Systems, Advanced Settings, for Userbame:, Password:, Admin Password:, I get the same results- "Wrong Password!"

Have a look in this document:

http://www.tandberg.com/support/dl.php?id=867&dir=Application_Programmer_Interfaces&fn=TANDBERG%20Management%20Suite%2012.2%20Product%20Support%20Document.pdf

Especially on page 100 where the support for HDX line are described.

The document is for TMS 12.2, but I guess it is still valid for TMS 13.x.

Hi Robert, thanks fo rthe reply.

i am using a later version of teh Polycom Software than the Tandberg document says is supported, 3.0.1-10628.

I also see that the URL of a previous installation of TMS is in the HDX8006 as the "Management Server". It lists http://10.150.0.44/pwx/nx_status.asp where the new TMS install is at 192.168.1.84.

This seems to correspond to the statement in teh doc that "he GMS URL in the system must be configured to point to the IP Address or DNS name of the TMS Server. This value can not be edited directly within the HDX’s user interfaces, but can be set

automatically through TMS using the Enforce Management Settings options of TMS."

Unfortunately, I can;t get to that point, as TMS keeps saying it has teh wrong password, so I can't use TMS to change this setting.

Hi Andy,

Couple things to check:

-is SNMP set on the Polycom?  Is that string also set in TMS when it attempts discovery?

-is Telnet enabled on the Polycom?  Have you verified it works?

-have you restarted the Polycom since changing passwords/snmp?

Good luck!

Andy,

Are you using 12.6 or less?  The reason I ask is this issue was resolved in 13.0, so if you are not on 13.0 or above I would suggest upgrading to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Justin

Hi Nick:

Yes, snmp is on on the HDX, and it is using the same string as TMS.

telnet is enabled and woprks also.

I tried some stuff-I set "security mode" to ON on teh Polycom, which made me reset my passwords and reboot-after doing so, i goot different errors in TMS-it now said it was getting info, but then said "no snmp response". i checked in teh Polycom and telnet and snmp were set to off, andt wouldn't et me turn them on from teh security page. i was abe to turn snmp on from teh snmp page, but still got the errors in TMS.

Hi Justin:

I am using TMS V13.1.

You could try to reset the Polycom back to fatory settings if it has an old configuration that you or your TMS can't clear.

Historical it used to be a mess to have Polycoms in TMS. Polycom changed their APIs or something constantly when they released new software, which broke the TMS possibilities to manage them. So you where forced to have specific software on the Polycoms that was supported by TMS, usally quite old sw. And new Polycom units that was installed had to be downgraded, if that was even possible.

I did teh factory reset with teh HDX, and after setting up IP address etc, I could not connect no matter what with TMS. Finally, I looked through all of teh command-line stiuff and issued a "enablesnmp yes", at which point I connected to it with TMS.

However, if I set any passwords in teh HDX at all, i lose connectivity.

I am confused about the passwords in teh HDX, and reading the IRM or teh UG doesn;t help any.

Tandberg/Cisco has a password that I will call teh admin password, and this governs web, telnet etc access and protects the settings. Then they have teh "remote" password with you key in on teh remote control, to change settings from within the room.

Polycom appears to have 3 or 4 passwords, a meeting password, an admin Room pasword, a user Room password, and a Remote Access Password. I have no idea which of these to set/change to make teh box act like my Tandberg endpoints.
