We are facing an issue with ex90. One of the ex90's during the upgrade from TMS from verison 4.x to 5.x did not automatically download the release key. Hence after the upgrade, the ex90 was asking for the release key. To temporarly resolve this issue, and reset it to the 4.x version we initiated a factory reset from the webpage.
Now we are unable to access the ex90 at all. It is not even taking the ip address nor did it go back to its 4.x version.
We also tried to reset it using the procedure of holding the power button for 15 sec as mentioned in the administration document. But the ex 90 just switches of after 10 sec.
An suggestion on how to reset it back to its shipped 4.x version. Which is the console port in ex 90? There is no port marked as console or serial in ex 90 but admin guide says there is a serial port.
Any help will be greatly appreciated in reseting the ex90 back to its shipped verion.

I have reset the ex90 following the below procedure
process was successful.
But Ex90 still is coming back to the version 5 software. Anybody has any idea on how to bring it back to version 4.x.

Hello,
the factory reset will have erased the other image on your system, in your case, TC4.x. The reason you want to go back to TC4 release is because you have a release key only for that release? Then I would suggest to load a TC4 based image again on your sytem. Or leave TC5 and ask TAC to get you a release key for TC5.

Hello Danny,
I am in the process of getting the release key from Licensing. But how do i upload it into the system, as it is not taking any ip address. If ex90 took ip address i could upload the release key from the webpage. Is there any other process to make the system take the new release key.
thanks

Hello,
factory reset put the system in DHCP mode to get address. Did you have static address before? Normally, even without release key your system should get IP address so you can use GUI or ssh admin access to load release key. I submitted a ddts to get release key entered via touch, but that has not been implemented yet.
CSCtu29812 - Need possibility to enter missing release key on touch

The Unit had Static IP before. But we are not able to ping the IP or reach it through Webpage. I also connected it to a port which which could give DHCP, but its not taking DHCP even after rebooting it.
Any idea on how to make ex90 take IP. Also can this relase key added using console?

Hi Jilfer,
Can you show the IP settings namely IP address, Subnet Mask and Default Gateway so that we can check that the IP address you're trying to give is valid?
Yes, it is possible to add the release key using the console. Login to the console and issue the following command :
xcommand SystemUnit ReleaseKey Add Key: xxxxxxxx (where x values represent the release key). Hit enter.
xcommand boot.

After factory reset we are not able to give it any ip address as the sytem is in a lockdown mode. We have contacted the licensing and received new relaese key for 5.x
What we did was, we connected it to a switch port which has DHCP enabled, so was expecting it to take take an ip. Once it takes an IP i can add the release key as mentioned above. The porblem we aare facing is ex90 is not taking an IP. Also i dont have a console cable to directly console it. Anyone has an idea what the serial cable is called?

Hi Jilfer,
Unfortunately, the serial cable used for Ex90 is a special cable and is not available outside. Can you use a cross over cable to connect one end of the cable to the device and other unit to the laptop and assign both devices in the same network and then try to ping. Please also give me the IP settings as requested in the previous post.

Hello Mubashshir,
What did you mean by my IP Settings?
T
As i am not trying to set any ip address on the device manually, as the device is in a lockdown mode. I am trying to connect the ex 90 to a switch were DHCP is configured. But it is not taking the IP from the DHCP server.
So i will not try the cross cable method by connection to my laptop.
Thanks
Jilfer

Jilfer,
FYI, if you do not set a Gateway in the IP settings on the EX90 then it will not save/activate the static IP.
Thanks,
Justin

Hi Jilfer,
By IP settings I mean IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway.
As Justin also mentioned above, if any of these fields are incorrect, it would not take the static IP.

Hello Mubashshir/Justin,
When the Ex90 was factory reset, It went to a lock down mode. You are unable to edit anything on the ex90, as the screen will display a message asking to apply the release key for version 5. Manually you cannot edit any of the settings, including IP address, gateway or subnetmask. Also it did not take DHCP from the usual DHCP server which all other working EX90's were taking.
Here is how i resloved the issue. Danny in this post shared a document which helped to resolve the issue, the steps are as follows,
I did not know why Ex90 did not take the normal DHCP server, because after applying the release key i re-connected it back to the same port on the switich, and it took the normal DHCP as it should have taken in the first place. Anyway my issue is resloved now.
