Extending 4xs2 Cam on SX20 with 2xCAB-HDMI-PHD12XS cables

As I read from older posts from the forums, I understand that there is a guide to extend this setup with 2 Options

One:

Requires 1x  CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS

Requires 1x  CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT

Requires 1x  PSU-CAM-V Power Supply

With a straight Cat5e cable

Two:

Requires 2x  CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT

Requires 1x  PSU-CAM-V Power Supply

With a custom pin Cable

What I want to ask is if it is possible to use

2x CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS instead of the options above?

Anyone ever tried this out?

If so do I use the same custom pin assignment as Option 2?

Just really want to get this answered.

Hi,

i am not totoally clear about your query but it seems like you want to extend the camera lenght connected to C20 codec.

there are two cable used to connect camera to codec, HDMI-HDMI ( for video) and RJ 45 to D-SUB ( for power and control).

The Camera control cable maximum length is 20 m (65.6 ft) so it can also be used to a maximum of 20 meters.

Yes, you can made a custom cable, but the maximum length supported is 20m.

The PIN OUT for camera control cables are:

The part ID for the camera control cable is CAB-VC-5M= for factory made cable.

• •1.       Camera HDMI cable:-

The HDMI cable delivered with camera is 5 m and maximum length is 15m (50ft) with a category 2 certified  good quality HDMI cable.

  Yes , it will support the 1080p

But I believe I made a typo for the question.

It should be SX20 instead.

therefore it should be RJ45 to RJ45 instead to D-Sub

Hi,

for SX20 device, there is a single cable which connect codec and camera.

You will get a camera cable that has the new propriety camera cable: (HDMI and control) to a separate HDMI and control cable.

Use standard HDMI extenders (Kramer) and RJ45 female to female barrels.

may be i cannot understand you.

CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS -  thsi cable would have one end Proprietary end for sx20 and other end as hdmi and male RJ 45 port .

how will you be connecting the second same cable to it, if you use a splitter 

CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT

you will  be with the same port which is not on the camera.

simply you can use an RJ45 extender cable used for MXP camera length extender for control and HDMI joiner to add another HDMI if required.power up with external psu.

that should work,

Here's the setup

HDMI

Codec -> CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS -> HDMI iJoint -> HDMI Cable -> HDMI iJoint -> CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS -> Camera

Control

Codec -> CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS -> RJ45 iJoint -> Cat5e Cable -> RJ45 iJoint -> CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS - Camera

The HDMI Signal is fine, but the control isn't working.

So basically, the question is, is it possible for me to use this setup instead of:

Codec ->CAB-HDMI-PHD12XS -> Cat5e -> CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT -> Camera

or

Codec ->CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT -> Cat5e -> CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT -> Camera

I understand that external power is needed, and this is for an extention of the Camera controls just to be chear

Hi Imp,

my bad some how i was thinking  you got a 12x camera

the only problem i can think of in your desired setup could be the control pinout.

if the signals are dying on the joints ,  then it may not work on control.

Try with a straight cable or a {(standard crossover) less chances} instead of the custom CAT5e cable see how does that works,

else you have the alternative mentioned by you.

The existing setup is a straight cable, I will go try out a cross cable and see if it works.

If not, I'll try to order a CAB-PHD4XS2-SPLIT

Hi,

it was a pleasure discussiong with you, just want to reconfirm when you say a striaght cable  that is a normal cat 5 straight cable which we use to connect our PC on switch.

what about the CAT5e custom cable which is used with spilitter adapter shown in teh PDF you attached. i assumed you hav tried that , if not please make one and test along with the crossover
