H.323 Gateway

I am using Cisco 1760 in my ccvp lab.

I am doing the H.323 Gateway control protocal pratical.

And my question is, what is the different between existence of H.323 Gateway in the topology and not existence?

In my current lab, the 1760 is registered all the iphone using ephone command.

then what is the purpose of h.323 in this lab? I can still communicate with each other without the h.323 gateway.

my lab diagram as below:

ipphone ---- powerlineswitch -------- cisco 1760-----cisco 3760----POTS

both iphone and pots can communicate directly using dial-peer command. however, i cannot find any difference if i add h.323 gateway on cisco 1760 or cisco 3760.

I hope there is some one can solve my problem.

You do not need H.323 for a standalone CCME configuration. We typically use H.323 (or more recently SIP) to communicate between call agents. Configuring the router as an H.323 gateway is only useful if you have a gatekeeper. Even working with CUCM just requires a VoIP dial-peer.
