How does CMS / Expressway C and E and CUCM all tie together

Hello All

We are currently working with a vendor to define a VC solution for us.

We currently have VCS / TMS / MCU which will be replaced by CMS, Expressway C and E and the endpoints will move from VCS to the CUCM for registration.

Can anyone please tell me how it will all work and hang together as brief as possible?

Firstly they say we will keep TMS, Can CMS not do what TMS does? why do we need to keep TMS?

Secondly, I believe the endpoints will register to CUCM, How does the CMS all hook in, how would a typical call flow work between Endpoints within our organisation, and secondly endpoints outside of our organisation? does the CUCM have to have SIP URI or route patterns to the Expressways and CMS?

Many thanks in advance

CMS is a media bridging platform. It's not a scheduling, phone book management, One button to push platform. TMS performs those functions today especially with cucm and on premise tp endpoints. Over time as folks move the endpoints to cloud registration, tms value is removed as those functions are moved to the cloud. However there are some caveats there. In addition also recommend CMM, which is a conference management platform needs separate vm but no cost to do operator white glove management. This is especially important coming from older products like 4500 or tp server that had some conference control management. cucm is your call control and yes will have route patterns to cms and use expressway for b2b calling, MS interop, webex teams hybrid interop among other things. I suggest you review the following links

Also if you are recording your meetings and have tcs then be careful as cms needs a separate recorder license and virtual machine and further more doesn't have a gui like tcs for managing your recordings, it dumps files on a nfs so keep that also in mind.

Designing cms and moving architecture from vcs/tms/mcu requires careful planning and I usually walk the customer through all the feature differences/delta between the products to ensure no surprises.

hi everyone,

i am new to CMS world, i want to know is there any difference in integrating cms with cucm and Expressway-e and c?

Hi everyone,

what will be best suited design for CMS, where client need to have conference with other Buisness partners?

any one can join the meeting with the link provided for joining.

Hello,

I think that depends on requirement of customer basis and what features they want, how many users using and max number of conference calls, high availability etc.

You can go through the below planning guide probably you will be having an idea of different types of deployments-

thanks for reply,

presently we are using Expressway E and C integrated with CUCM, now we are going to integrate CMS, here i am not able to decide where to integrate this CMS in my network. whether i should go with CUCM or Expressway series?

As per my understanding, we can integrate directly with CUCM as a conference bridge and assign a dial pattern to it, where my in-house users can access this, but when some one wants to call from other domain then it requires the Expressway and if they want to use WEBRTC they need turn server is Expressway-e. The public ip/FQDN of expressway e is assigned with A record on external DNS server.

if this is the case then Any new record has to be published on External DNS?

Hello,

As per the recommended and most stable design is, to use your CUCM as main call agent with in your network.

And to use expressway pair for any B2B /MRA / WebRTC and lync calls as well  (As CMS can work as a interop between Standard SIP and MS SIP and your expressway has capability to identify your microsoft AV and share traffic )

For WebRTC through expressway, please see the below link-
