IP precedence bits (TOS)

Hello,

We are looking at a Sprint IP VPN solution. Sprint uses IP Precedence for QoS/class of service.

I do not understand where the precedence bit is set at. Does the application set this field as the packet is created?

Can the router be configured to set the precedence bit?

IE: can an access list be defined looking for telnet traffic. When telnet traffic is found, set the precedence bit to 5 (best quality).

Any documentation you can point me to would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

There are loads of ways to do this...

The phone can set the DSCP, the router can set it, the switch can set it. Even a PC can set it.

Most switches and routers can set acording to an ACL.

See the documentation on CCO for your router of switch. look under QoS marking
