Not able to assigned IP on 3241 gateway

Dear Team,

We have one Cisco ISDN gateway 3241, which we are installing at a site, but we are facing the issue that we are not able to give the IP to the gateway.

As soon as we give the IP to it in a static mode through Console port, after sometime it automatically shows no IP assigned, and we are not able to browse it further.

Regards

Nikhil

You may use “reset_config” command from console port to reset the configuration to default settings.

Also reinstall software might help if network configuration issue due with software corruption.

Software upgrade can be done by using compact flash card on device even you don’t have IP connectivity.

  • Extract the image from the .zip file to your hard drive and rename the extracted image to kupgrade.
  • Obtain a Compact Flash card of between 32 and 256 Mb capacity, and some means of writing to it. USB compact flash card reader/writers are readily available.
  • Copy kupgrade on to the Compact Flash card.
  • Connect a serial terminal to the Console port of your unit using the connection settings on the unit's back label.
  • Insert the Compact Flash card in to the slot on the unit's front panel and shutdown/restart the unit from the web interface.
  • Watch the output on the serial terminal.
    After a few seconds, you will see several rows of '.....' appear, followed by a message telling you the number of bytes copied. This represents the copying of the kupgrade image from the external Compact Flash card to the unit's internal memory.
  • After you get message “ bytes copied “Eject the Compact Flash card from the external slot.
    The unit will complete the upgrade process and reboot of its own accord.

Important: If flash card is not removed then after reboot it will start upgrade process again.

Are you configuring static IP address from console port by executing “static [A|B] []” command?

For example, assume configuring static IP on port A with 172.16.1.10/24 and 172.16.1.1 for default gateway, then “static A 172.16.1.10 255.255.255.0 172.16.1.1”.

What does outcome of “status” command after you manually configured static IP address?

Do you see IP address that you just configured?

For example…

=====================================================================

3241GW:> status

Host name: 3241GW

PortA: speed 1000 full duplex

       ipv4 manual, ip 172.16.1.10 mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 172.16.1.1

       ipv6 disabled

PortB: no link

=====================================================================

Hi Tomonori,

i have tried this command but it is showing the following output:

PortA: speed 1000 full duplex

Ipv4 DHCP disabled

ipv4 manual, ip 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 gateway 0.0.0.0

ipv6 disabled

Its not taking the configured IP.

Is it possible to IP address you are trying to give it is in use elsewhere on the network? Can you try a different IP address in the same subnet?

hi Guy,

we have tried changing the IP also, but still same issues output coming as below

static A 192.168.1.252 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1

usage : static [] []

ISDN-GW:> status

PortA: speed 1000 full duplex

       ipv4 dhcp enabled, ip 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 gateway 255.255.255.255

       primary dns - secondary dns - suffix

PortB: no link

then we disabled dhcp but still the issue is same.

Seem need to add DNS server address which can be dummy IP address unless using SRV/A-record host configuration or URL dialing.

Try “static 192.168.1.252 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.1”.

(adding default gateway IP address as dummy DNS server address to complete the command line).

Nikhil,

since the usage syntax states

static [] []

could you try dropping the 'A' and simply typing

static 192.168.1.252 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1

and see if that works?

Hi Andres & Tomonori,

i have tried both the ways by adding the DNS IP & and omitting the port name A from the command, but still the issue is same, can you suggest Something else here.

Also is it possible to factory default the gateway, Since this is a new gateway which we are installing.
