Re-host Screen Licenses from Telepresence Server appliance to vTS

Hi,

Recently we upgraded MCU 5320 with 40 port licenses to Telepresence Server on the same appliance and in that process we converted these licenses to 10 Screen Licenses.

Now we want to re-host this on virtual TS and we ran into a problem with licenses since noone can explain how to do this.

Does anybody know how to do this migration concerning Screen licenses migration?

P.S.

We bought vTS with encryption license only and now we need to migrate Screen licenses which we already have on physical appliance I mentioned above.

Converting the 5320 to TP software basically makes it a MM320, which only operates in remotely managed mode. Do you have Conductor? You will need it - that's where the screen licenses are managed. An MM320 is not functional without Conductor. Note this is also true with TPS on a VM - it still needs Conductor, only the 8710 and 7010 appliance supported locally managed mode.

You might want to consider migrating those SL's to SMP (shared multiparty plus) licenses. There is a fee to do so, but it's 1/4 of the standard price for SMP licenses and will give you the newer Cisco Meeting Server capability (aka Acano). Ten SMP licenses will give you the ability to host ten meetings at once, the number of connections would then only be limited to how much hardware you have behind it.

You can try and perform a rehost of the licenses by contacting the GLO at licensing@cisco.com, however they may not grant your request.  You're more than likely going to have to purchase new licenses for the virtual TelePresence Server, as rehosting the screen licenses from the appliance to the virtual is basically asking Cisco to give you free licenses for a second server while you still have the existing appliance.

As Patrick mentions, you can migrate the screen licenses to Multiparty licensing, either PMP+ or SMP+, which is the recommended method instead of using screen licenses.
