Resetting a 1700MXP with Menu password.

I've just got a bunch of 1700MXP back from a customer and they have put a menu password on all of the systems and haven't documented what the password is. Now I need to access the settings in the systems to be able to reconfigure them. Is there any way of doing a factory reset or reseting the system when you don't have the password?

The systems are set to static ip-adresses as well so I can't access them through my network since it's the wrong ip-range.

This from the TANDBERG knowledge base

quote

Remember to write down the Option and Bandwidth keys listed out before you execute this command.

From the API (Telnet, SSH or serial cable) enter the following command:

  • defvalues set factory

This will clear all settings on the system, reset the IP access password to TANDBERG, clear the Option and Bandwidth keys, delete the Phone Book directories and format the flash disk.

You can also do a "triple E reset" with Hypertermianl on boot using a serial cable.

When the system is starting up press “Ctrl” and “Break” simultaneously on your PC keyboard.

At the $ prompt type ‘eee’ followed by enter.

Again, do not forget to write down any option keys before doing this.

If you can connect to the system and issue the command that Jens write about, then you can just erase the MENU PASSWORD, no need to reset the system to factory defaults.

From telnet, ssh or serial console, type:

menupassword set ""

No more menu passwords.

Can you not connect using telnet or ssh, then you probably need to reset the IP PASSWORD

Using a serial console, type:

strictpassword off

ippassword ""
