Resetting password on VCS Starter Pack x7.2

Hi!!

I got little problem with remote control of VCS Starter Pack.. I have only root access via serial number.

Could you advise me, what command could help me to change admin name and password for web access? How I understood, commands from version 6 doesn't work fo 7.2.

I already made attempt with aproach via pwrec but for some reason it didn't work. So I need only command via CLI for version 7.2

pwrec should also work, but only works within a short time after a reboot.

As you say you have root access, you can simply set the admin password youself.

Access the VCS as root, enter:

passwd admin

~ # passwd admin
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

you will be prompted to enter your new password twice and there you go :-)

The following xcommand way seem to be removed from the current versions:

SystemUnit AdminAccount [1..15] Password: <0>
Defines the password of an administrator user who can login to the VCS web interface. The maximum plaintext length is 16 characters, which will then be encrypted.
Example: xConfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 1 Password: "password123"
SystemUnit Password: < 0="">
Defines the password for the default 'admin' account. This account is used to log in to the VCS via Telnet, HTTP(S), SSH, SCP, and on the serial port. The maximum plaintext length is 16 characters, which will then be encrypted.
Example: xConfiguration SystemUnit Password: "password123"

And sure, there is also the way to factory default your vcs.

I know that if using pwrec I have to do it in during 1 minute. I passed this procedure and it writes that password changed succesfully, but I couldn't use it either after rebooting. So it doesn't work.

Reseting vcs also not our way.

If xcommand removed from current version, probably another command replace it? I am reading/scanning admin guides in searching of this information, but without success..

Ok. Let's try from another site. How could I learn/get access to database of accounts informational(user, password) under root?

in general I would say you or your network are doing something wrong :-)

Do you have root access or not?

did you try to change the password with passwd?

Did you try to access the vcs with admin and the new set password via ssh?

Are you sure that you use the right login page? you have to use the administrator

and not the user site.

The right one is the login page:

https:///login

and not the user/login site.

Also try a different browser and check that no proxy or something else is messing with your login.

I have root access.

Yes I used passwd but it did not help cause related only to root access.

VCS have white IP address so I just spell this IP to web browser. After it I get window of VCS with "user login" and "Administrator login". Autentification for root couldn't pass it both .

I didn't try get access via ssh. Of cource I could customize it under root but it will not bring me nothing accept control via CLI. I need web access.

No, you need to enter:

passwd admin

which changes the admin users password, just passwd changes the current users, in your case root password which is wrong.

you will not be able to login with the root user, you have to use the admin user.

and you should at least try to use ssh to login as admin to see if the password works there

(like I said it can also be browser or proxy issues, ...)

Thanks for advise.. I found true reason of all my problem.. On vcs installed two systems: one with stripped-down rights and one with normal usabillity. And they dublicate each other. By the way, thanks for help:))

Thank you for voting and setting the thread to answered!

Could you describe a bit more what your issue was, I did not really understand the info.

On the VCS you have to system users, admin and root, only the admin user can

login via the webinterface, the root user is only for console/ssh access.

You can add additional admin accounts  and also have user authentication via ldap.

Rights of the user can also be changed.

In addition you might have local (video device) users as well / findme accounts.

There is also an advanced security mode, but that requires a option key and I would

only recomend that if you really need that.
