SX20 with or without Call Manager Pros and Cons

I have a client who does not have an IPT infrastructure i.e no Call Manager or Ip phones. He wants to purchase Webex for Audio and Video meetings along with the SX20 device.

With the CMR cloud he would register his SX20 device on the cloud instead of registering it on the CUCM. I'm suggesting him to get a Call Manager to register his sx20 on that instead of the cloud.

My question is, what are the Pros and Cons for the SX20 to be registered on the CUCM instead of it being registered on the Webex Cloud.

There may be some misunderstanding of terms, as you cannot have an endpoint registered to the WebEx cloud. Think of CMR Cloud as a Conductor / Telepresence Server / MCU in the cloud. It's a conference bridge, not call control.

If I'm missing something, please clarify what do you understand by registering an endpoint to the WebEx cloud?

Lets put it this way, When we have a call manager the SX20 registers with it.

However when we do not have a call manager like in my clients case, the sx20 registers in the cloud or at least it works without a call manager.

Hi Talal,

It seems that you are asking about the Standalone mode of SX20, as rightly said by Zoltan there is nothing like registering to a webex cloud.

If you are looking at info on the standalone operation of SX20 where it does not register to cucm or vcs then you can check the following posts as this query has been answered quite a few times on CS

Yes standalone would be the correct term, not register. I went through the links before as well but i want to jott down the pros and cons for using standalone as compared to registering the SX20 with a CUCM.

Standalone is not a standard or recommended deployment so you won't find the features supported with this type of deployment in any Cisco doc. You can check the SX20 admin guides and note the features that come with it when registered to cucm or VCS. I don't really see any pros for such a deployment apart from the financial factor.
