Telepresence using PVDM3 instead of standalone MCU

Hi,

Can anybody advise that what will be the limitation if we use PVDM3 on ISRG2 router as a multipoint device instead of standalone MCU for Telepresence.

Also we prefer to use CUCM v9.x for the purpose of VCS.

Hardwares will be used:

1. CUCMBE v9.x

2. PVDM3-256 (qty: 2) on ISRG2 2951

3. CTS-MX300-55-K9 (qty: 4)

4. CTS-EX90-K9 (qty: 4)

5. Cisco 99971 Phones.

Any valuable advice would be highly appreciated

BR, Shimjid.

The PVDM3s have a few limitations compared to a true MCU:

  • they are limited to 720p30 maximum
  • they do not support BFCP (no content sharing)
  • they work best when you have a homogonous resolution and frame rate in the conference call (i.e. switching). In other words, you'd be better off with all of the same endpoint than expecting it to do video transcoding. It can only do transcoding of standard definition (not HD!) and you take a big hit in capacity. If you want 720p it must be a homogonous call.

Use the DSP calculator to figure out the sizing:

No it is not. There is no layout or floor control.

Thank you very much Jonathan for the valuable info. What about Continuous Presence View (To display multiple participants in a veriety layouts) ? Is it possible with PVDM3 ?

No it is not. There is no layout or floor control.
