What exactly is required to allow the phonebooks from TMS to be displayed on a video endpoint such as and EX90 that is registered to a VCS-Expressway from across the internet?
The docs are rather vaugue on this point, stating only that you need to set the FQDM in TMS.
On the TMS, the setting for Administrative Tools > Configuration > Network Settings > Advanced Network Settings for Systems on Public Internet/Behind Firewall > TMS Server Address (Fully Qualified Host Name) is TMShostname.domain
As there was never an original requirement to support Internet based devices, this TMS has an internal 172.x.x.x address.
The endpoints still ahve the original url from when it was deployed on the LAN
xConfiguration Phonebook Server 1 URL: "http://172.x.x.x/tms/public/external/phonebook/phonebookservice.asmx"
So, how exaclty do the external devices find their way to the TMS? Do I need to move the TMS to a public address? I'm looking for a clean way to do this without breaking all the other devices.
thx!

Hi TMS have different ways of looking at the systems. Either they are on LAN, public internet or behind firewall(soho)
Basically you have to have a public ip which is 1:1 natted or port forwarded to the 172 address on port 80/443. Fqdn is just resolving to an ip anyway but it must go to the tms server. As long as the external endpoints can reach the tms fqdn or on a public ip it works the same as in lan.

If you can use TMSPE and set the EX90 etc up as provisioned endpoints, you can set them to get the phonebooks via the VCS by contacting phonebook@sipdomain
The endpoints then get the phone books via SIP messaging through VCSe to VCSc
