Webex Room kit auto upgrade & getting Webex Icon on Tocuh 10 panel

We have on prem Collaboration solution which consists of Expressway cluster, CUCM Cluster & CMS.

We have approx 100 - Room kits, Room kit mini & DX80 devices. Some are registered natively on CUCM and some as an MRA.

Last week, some of the MRA mode Room kit & Room kit mini devices got auto upgraded & then we see Webex Icon on touch panel. Now I am trying to find out answers to following doubts :

1. Why it happened for some MRA devices & not for others, though everything was same.

2. Can we join Web-ex meetings from these devices now ?

3. During COVID 19 situation, Cisco has given has trial basis Cloud Web ex account and over there I can register the room kit and in doing so, we are getting Webex icon on touch 10 panel, so what is difference between a cloud registered room kit & on prem registered room kit device with webex icon.

4. How to get webex icon on all room kit devices.?

5. How secure is this solution ?

Please assist.

It will depend on where the devices are and how they're configured and whether they registered to the cloud or to your CUCM. Accessibility from the endpoint to your CUCM TFTP server can be another cause of why some may have been updated, but not others too. There are too many possibilities to guess at without knowing more details on your deployment.

2. Can we join Web-ex meetings from these devices now ?

Yes if your call control platform allows you to connect to external SIP addresses (in which case, you likely always could have connected to a Webex meeting).

Cloud registered endpoints use the cloud as their call control, and all the calls will traverse the cloud - on prem devices can be used as normal on-prem calling between each other without going via the cloud, but also get the ability to more easily connect to a Webex meeting (note - even without the icon you could still do a SIP dial to a webex meeting ID - the icon just makes the experience a little more user friendly only requiring a user to type the webex meeting ID).

4. How to get webex icon on all room kit devices.?

Upgrade them all to a software release that includes the icon (CE9.10.0 or later)

5. How secure is this solution ?

As secure as any other video call you do.
